Filings Allege Troopers Knew of Alcohol Before Fatal Crash

New paperwork filed September 10 in Middlesex Superior Court by a special prosecutor alleges fellow troopers knew former State Police Detective Scott Quigley had been drinking before a Dec. 12, 2023, head-on crash on Lexington Street and kept it to themselves. The filings say Quigley drank two martinis at Teresa's Restaurant & Bar before driving his unmarked State Police Ford Escape, and that State Police determined he was going 59 mph in a 35-mph zone; blood drawn after the crash showed a blood alcohol content between 0.095 and 0.10 percent. Quigley pleaded not guilty in April to felony motor vehicle homicide in the death of 37-year-old van passenger Angelo Schettino of Saugus, whose mother is pursuing a $25 million wrongful death suit.
