About Nanopress

Nanopress is a short morning email about what's happening in your town — local government, schools, new restaurants, road work, and weekend plans, compiled fresh every day. It's free.

Our mission

Keeping up with your town shouldn't take work. What's happening where you live — decisions at town hall, school news, road closures, openings, weekend events — is scattered across dozens of places, and nobody has time to check them all. We built software that does that reading every morning and compiles it into one short email, free, so knowing your town takes two minutes a day.

What we care about is what happens after you read: more people at the town meeting, at the school play, at the place that just opened. A town where more people know what's going on is a town where more people take part.

Who makes this

Nanopress is made by two people — founders Winston Chen and Marcus Botnen-Chen. We live in Arlington and read the same brief you do.

How the brief is made

The reading and drafting are done by software we built. Every morning it reads dozens of local sources — official announcements, local reporting, community calendars — checks every story against the page it came from, drops anything it can't confirm, and links every item back to the original. Nothing is invented.

We don't republish other people's reporting: each item is a one- or two-sentence summary in our own words, with a link and a credit to the original story. How we work with local publishers is on the Publishers page.

When we get it wrong

We will get things wrong. Reply to any edition, or write news@nanopress.net — one of us reads and approves every reply before it sends, and the correction runs at the bottom of the next morning's brief.
