Man Arrested After Alleged Assaults on Women in Winthrop

Police arrested a 25-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted and harassed multiple women downtown, including allegedly trying to pull down a woman's pants outside the Wadsworth Building on Winthrop Street while she was with her child. Officers found him on Governor's Drive and used a taser when he allegedly resisted arrest. Three officers were injured, one of whom was taken to a hospital. After the arrest, other women reported being slapped at a bus stop and finding the man inside a Jefferson Street home, and he is expected to face charges including two counts of indecent assault and battery.

Steve Rogers Becomes Winthrop Police Chief Today

Deputy Chief Steve Rogers takes command as Winthrop's police chief on October 1, succeeding retiring Chief John Goodwin. Rogers will work with Goodwin through October 31 during a one-month transition.
