Town archivist Ellen Knight retires after 15 years

Ellen Knight, 78, has retired as Winchester's reference archivist, the paid post she held from 2011 to 2026 after roughly 15 years volunteering in the collection and seven on the Winchester Archives Advisory Committee. Among her projects was rebuilding the town's veterans memorial rolls name by name, untangling Korean War names appended to the World War II list, men counted once for two wars, and one man listed three times under three spellings of the same surname. The records remain in the lower level of Town Hall; Knight says she sees nobody coming up behind her, and that the World War II list still isn't entirely right.
