Winchester Firefighter Born After 9/11 Rings Bell at 25th Anniversary Observance

Outside the Public Safety Building on Mt. Vernon Street Friday morning, Firefighter Joe Amaro, 21, struck the Fire Department's ceremonial bell five times, paused, then struck it five more as police officers, firefighters in turnout gear, town officials and residents held their salutes. Winchester Ladder 1's aerial ladder was extended over the street with a large American flag, while Firefighter Nicholas Adragna lowered a second flag to half-staff. Lt. Tim Helgesen read a prayer of remembrance written for the 25th anniversary and the toll of the attacks, including the 343 firefighters lost from the New York City Fire Department.
