Select Board Dispute Highlights Division Over Housing Board Seat

Select Board member Michael Bettencourt filed an Open Meeting Law complaint June 3 against two fellow members, copying the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office; Vice Chair William McGonigle answered with an 18-page response written on town letterhead. At the center of the dispute is Bettencourt's removal from the Affordable Housing Trust and the Housing Partnership Board, and the timing of that removal in favor of McGonigle. Chair Anthea Brady and McGonigle did not answer four written questions sent July 29, and as of Aug. 10 no public meeting had been held on the matter.
