Guided Hike Spotlights North 40's Uncertain Future

A Wellesley Trails Committee guided hike on Sept. 18 took residents through the 46-acre North 40 parcel, which the town bought from Wellesley College in 2014 for $35 million. Volunteer Rick Mongeau led the group past the Weston Road Community Gardens and the site's vernal pool, and walkers discussed open space preservation as proposals for a fire station and housing are floated for the land. Community Preservation Committee member Barbara McMahon said the assumption over time has been that the North 40 "is just open parkland."
