Watertown West Nile Virus Risk Elevated to High
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health raised Watertown's West Nile virus risk level to "high" on Wednesday, one of 11 Greater Boston communities now at that level, while 250 other cities and towns are listed as moderate. The state has confirmed six human cases this year and 273 WNV-positive mosquito samples statewide. Officials say the virus is rarely fatal but can cause meningitis or encephalitis in a small fraction of cases, and are urging residents to take precautions.
