State Rep Candidates Debate Health Care, Housing in Aug. 4 Forum

Incumbent John Lawn and challenger Alison Leary, both Democrats, discussed health care costs, local housing and transparency on Beacon Hill in a televised Aug. 4 debate co-hosted by Watertown News and WCA-TV. Leary, a Newton city councilor since 2013, said she would subject the legislature and governor's office to the open meeting law, while Lawn, elected in 2011, said hearings, votes and bill summaries are already public. The 10th Middlesex district covers Watertown precincts 9 through 12 along with parts of Newton and Waltham; the state primary is Sept. 1.
