Councilors Urge Stronger Mental-Health Outreach

At the Sept. 28 City Council meeting, Ward 8 Councilor Cathyann Harris and Councilor Sean T. Durkee spoke about substance-use recovery and suicide prevention as the council formally recognized National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Recovery Awareness Month. Harris shared the story of her sister, who died as a result of a substance use disorder, and urged residents to reach out to loved ones and support their recovery. The councilors asked the council to hear from community groups and experts.
