Crescent Suites Hotel Seeks Apartment Switch

Crescent Suites owner petitions to convert hotel to apartments

Owner Dennis Dyer, who bought the 30-unit hotel at 287 Crescent St. in 2015, filed a petition Sept. 15 asking the city to let him operate it as a rental property, saying it is no longer viable as a hotel. His lawyer told the City Council and, earlier, trustees of the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund that the hotel is too small to justify outside management; its 14 long-term rental rooms are fully occupied while the rest see higher vacancy. No additional construction is planned — all rooms are studios or one-bedrooms with kitchens and baths, two accessible, with 48 parking spaces. Ward 8 Councilor Cathyann Harris spoke supportively, citing no neighborhood complaints and added affordability without major construction.
