City Plans Gore Place Intersection Redesign for Safety
City Traffic Engineer J. Michael Garvin told a Sept. 10 neighborhood meeting with Mayor McCarthy that the Main Street intersection where a Shell station, John Brewer's Tavern and Gore Place meet is "one of the most confusing" in the city, and that officials have been tasked with redesigning it since 2020. The plan keeps the intersection's overall shape but repositions traffic lights, changes signal timing, adds a large raised traffic island at the mouth of Warren Street with a pedestrian push button, and adds a crossing light at the eastern end of the Main Street crosswalk. The Traffic Commission has finalized the layout, and construction is expected in spring 2027.
