Public Comment Open on Joint Sewer Overflow Control Plan

Cambridge, Somerville, and the MWRA have released a Draft Updated Combined Sewer Overflow Control Plan and are taking public comment through Sept. 30, including an in-person session at the Somerville Public Library on Aug. 10. The plan carries an estimated $1.3 billion investment and is projected to eliminate combined sewer overflows across all three receiving waterbodies in a 2050 typical year, even accounting for increased precipitation from climate change. The agencies describe it as the first CSO plan in the nation to explicitly incorporate climate change, built on four years of technical work and public engagement.
