Preservation Committee Faces $4M Shortfall for Landmark Projects

The Somerville Community Preservation Committee heard the first of nine projects seeking a combined $7.7 million on Wednesday, with only $3.5 million available for open space and preservation. Among the long-awaited pitches are $5 million for the Brickbottom ArtFarm park and $1 million for Kennedy Schoolyard renovations. Officials warned that tight budgets, compounded by the coming Winter Hill school construction, mean not every project can be funded, with deliberations set to begin in September.
