BMC Nurses Authorize Three-Day Strike
Nurses at Boston Medical Center and the affiliated Brockton Behavioral Health Center, represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, voted September 11 to authorize a three-day strike, with nearly 90% of those voting in favor. The union, bargaining with management for more than six months, is seeking higher wages and a safer workplace; an ER nurse said a strike is a last resort. Federal law requires 10 days' notice before a hospital strike, and the next bargaining session is set for Friday, September 25.
