Five-alarm fire displaces 41 and destroys six Teele Square businesses

A five-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon at 1135 Broadway displaced 41 residents and destroyed six businesses, including a longtime dry cleaner, a package store and Marsala, an Indian restaurant open for more than 15 years. The fire broke out just feet from a Somerville firehouse, and mutual aid crews from several neighboring departments helped bring it under control. All tenants got out safely and three firefighters had minor injuries, but Fire Chief Charles Breen's department says the building is a total loss.
