City Council Urges Tufts to Resolve Graduate Student Dispute

At its Aug. 27 meeting, the City Council passed a resolution about a former Tufts international graduate student. The resolution alleges that a conflict during her university employment threatened her academic standing and suggested her program could be terminated. It calls on Tufts to remove or correct any grades changed in retaliation for her advocating for herself, to provide appropriate financial compensation, and to work toward a fair resolution. At-large Councilor Ben Wheeler, who sponsored the measure, acknowledged such resolutions carry no legal weight but said disagreement over them shows how much they matter.
