Cannabis operators warn Question 8 threatens local industry
Owners of the 19 recreational dispensaries in Somerville and Cambridge said on September 22 that November's Question 8 ballot measure would end their industry eight years after voters legalized it. The measure, formally "An Act to Restore Sensible Marijuana Policy," would bar recreational sales statewide starting in 2028 while keeping limited possession legal and leaving the medical marijuana program intact. Backers at The Coalition for a Healthy Massachusetts argue legal sales have increased access for minors and driving while high; one local operator, whose dispensaries employ about 45 people, called the question "a major concern."
