Half Shell closes; Sub Shop takes Porter Square
September 20, 2026
Top story
The Half Shell closes in Porter Square for The Sub Shop
The Half Shell served its final meals Thursday, Sept. 17, after decades of Greek-style pizzas, calzones, pastas and salads at 1760A Massachusetts Ave. in Porter Square; the Lagoudakis family had run the diner-style eatery since 1998. Owner Josh Winer, an East Somerville resident, signed a lease for the space and expects to open his sandwich concept, The Sub Shop, a transplant from Boston's Fort Point, as soon as mid-October. State Rep. Marjorie Decker emailed constituents about the closing and brought the family a resolution signed by House Speaker Ron Mariano as longtime customers arrived with flowers and cards.
