Developer withdraws 300-unit Saugus housing proposal

20 Bennett LLC has asked to withdraw its application for 300 rental apartments at 20 Rear Bennett Highway, 29 Hood St., 0 Mildred St. and 0 Goldie St. The request follows the state Housing Appeals Committee's decision upholding the Zoning Board of Appeals' use of Chapter 40B 'safe harbor,' which gives the board greater authority to deny or place conditions on such developments. Special Town Counsel advised the board to defer a formal vote on the withdrawal until the appeal period expires Oct. 8.
