Exchange Salem secures $48M for 115-unit housing project
WinnCompanies said Wednesday it has secured $48 million in financing for The Exchange Salem, a seven-story, 115-unit apartment building on a former municipal parking lot beside the commuter rail station. Of the apartments, 55 will be for households earning up to 60 percent of Area Median Income, 22 for those up to 30 percent, 20 for middle-income households and 18 at market rates. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2028.

Parade road closures begin at 4 p.m. Thursday in downtown Salem
Closures run from about 4 to 9:30 p.m. for the Haunted Happenings Grand Parade, affecting sections of Congress, Derby, Front, Essex, Hawthorne Boulevard and Route 1A. Expect delays; vehicles in South Harbor Garage cannot leave until the parade ends.

The Salem Chamber of Commerce's 29th annual parade, themed "Old-School Halloween," runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It starts at Shetland Park, follows the traditional downtown route and ends at Salem Common.

Salem schools give families 30 days to request old special-ed records
Salem Public Schools plans to destroy special-education records for former students whose services ended on or before June 30, 2018. Students, parents and guardians may arrange to retrieve records within 30 days; unclaimed records are slated for destruction after November 15.

MBTA adds weekend Salem trains throughout October
The MBTA and Keolis added extra peak-time weekend trains on the Newburyport/Rockport Line, plus a $5 round-trip ticket between Beverly and Salem. On Monday, October 12, trains run a weekday schedule and the $10 weekend pass is extended to that day.
