Data center permit appeal draws Salem ZBA scrutiny
The Zoning Board of Appeals is weighing Prime Group Holdings' appeal of the revoked permit for a roughly 12,000-square-foot building the city classifies as a data center at Shetland Park. The New York firm received a building permit on May 18, but the city revoked it after more detailed construction documents led the building commissioner to conclude the data center use did not comply with zoning. Mayor Dominick Pangallo, who filed a proposed citywide ban on data center construction two months ago that the City Council has not yet passed, called the case an illustration of why that protection is needed.
