Wu Proposes Tax Breaks to Unlock 1,400 New Homes
Mayor Michelle Wu on Tuesday proposed targeted, time-limited tax abatements for four previously approved market-rate housing projects, aiming to move 1,400 homes — including more than 180 income-restricted units — into construction within the next year. The four projects would receive roughly $31.5 million in temporary relief, about $22,500 per unit, with the abatements contingent on construction starting on an agreed timeline. The city says it would see no net revenue loss, and developers would continue paying at least what they pay in property taxes today.
