Councillors Question Oversight in Clasby Embezzlement Case
At a Sept. 29 joint hearing of the City Council's Finance and Oversight Committee, councillors questioned whether former elder services director Thomas Clasby Jr., who pleaded guilty to embezzling from the city, should have been caught sooner. Ward 5 Councillor Maggie McKee pointed to a police report identifying five invoices totaling $38,134 for Celtic Safety Consultants, with payments sent to an apartment in the Bronx. Clasby was sentenced in June to six months in prison and ordered to pay $136,061.71 in restitution.
