Councillors propose "no surprise" city governance policy
Five councillors — Ziqiang Susan Yuan, David Jacobs, Anne Mahoney, Deborah Riley and Virginia Ryan — will introduce a resolution at Tuesday's City Council meeting calling for a "no surprise" approach to government rather than a "no ask, no tell" system. The resolution cites three decisions by Mayor Thomas Koch's administration the councillors say were not disclosed in a timely fashion: the 2020 installation of Flock cameras, an $850,000 plan for statues of two saints at public safety headquarters, and a $700,000 rehabilitation of the parking lot serving Squaw Rock Park and the Nickerson Post. It also says the administration has not proactively disclosed the city's roughly $2 billion in debt. The full council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, following a 6:35 p.m. Municipal Technology Committee session on expanding online city services.
