Advocacy groups seek accountability after fatal police shooting
The Black Response and Cambridge Democratic Socialists of America issued a joint statement calling for a system that preserves life, days after Cambridge police fatally shot William Woodworth, 64, of Watertown in a parking lot off Temple Street in Central Square on Aug. 21. The Middlesex District Attorney's office and the Cambridge Police Department said Woodworth was shot multiple times after allegedly getting out of his vehicle and pointing a loaded firearm at officers, who tried to physically disarm him. Body-camera footage is under review; several officers were taken to area hospitals, treated and released.
