Holtec may go to federal court over Pilgrim wastewater
Holtec International, owner of the closed Pilgrim nuclear plant, says it may go to federal court for authorization to release radioactive wastewater into Cape Cod Bay after losing a state Department of Environmental Protection appeal earlier this month. The company has opted against appealing in Massachusetts Superior Court, where the case would have hinged on the Ocean Sanctuaries Act protecting the bay. Holtec initially sought to discharge up to 1.1 million gallons, though evaporation has since reduced the volume below 800,000 gallons.
