Petition Pushes Newton City Council to Act on Zoning Reforms
Housing advocacy group Newton for Everyone has launched a citizen petition asking the City Council to change the zoning ordinance. Its proposals would allow multifamily housing and businesses by-right in manufacturing districts, and residential buildings up to five stories in existing business districts. Under the City Charter, a citizen petition with at least 50 registered-voter signatures forces the Council to hold a public hearing and vote within three months.
