Judge orders release of man detained by ICE outside Newton court

Rhode Island District Judge Melissa R. DuBose on Tuesday ordered the immediate release of Hector Arnoldo Orellana-Lopez, who was arrested by immigration officers outside Newton District Court on Sept. 10. Ruling on his habeas corpus petition, she found he is entitled to a bond hearing, ordered his property returned and directed the government to report within 48 hours on whether bond was granted. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said a court found he drove with a suspended license and that he has one pending OUI case; he has no recorded serious criminal history.
