Newtonville rail station to stay open through most of renovation

Mayor Marc Laredo announced Thursday that the Newtonville commuter rail station will remain open during most of its renovation, after MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng called him with a revised plan. Instead of a 28-month shutdown from November through spring 2029, the station would close for three months starting next summer and two months in spring 2029. The change follows months of pushback and an organized campaign by residents and business owners; Charles River Regional Chamber President Greg Reibman called it a win for local businesses.
