School Committee to Review PROTECT Act Policies Monday

The School Committee meets Monday, Sept. 14, for a first read on adopting state PROTECT Act policies, which bar warrantless civil immigration arrests at public schools, courthouses, childcare centers and healthcare facilities. The review follows ICE agents' detention of two people near Newton District Court and City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 10. Superintendent Anna Nolin notified families through ParentSquare that afternoon, writing that "every corner of NPS should feel safe and welcoming to our students and families."
