Top story
Plum Island sewer system monitoring pilot set to begin
The Department of Public Services will run a six-month pilot study monitoring 100 of Plum Island's 630 vacuum sewer pits, with installation starting in early October. The system is meant to help the DPS Sewer Division precisely locate and identify issues in the vacuum system. If successful, it could cut response times and ease demands on infrastructure and staff during problems such as a loss of vacuum in the lines. The city outlined the plan at a Sept. 23 informational meeting at PITA Hall and will judge the technology's efficacy before considering a full installation.
