DPW Repairs Sewage Force Main Leak Near Rosemary Brook

A pressurized sewer force main in the easement woods across from the pump station at 257 West St. leaked for 11.5 hours, discharging about 27,200 gallons of raw sewage roughly 250 feet into the woods near Rosemary Brook, according to the DPW's required disclosure. Crews from the Water, Sewer and Drain division had to bypass the broken section of pipe at the pump station to keep wastewater moving while they made the repair. "You can't shut a pump station down," said Mike Retzky, superintendent of Water, Sewers and Drains, citing the risk of flooding the station.
