Natick Wins $50K Climate Grant for Atlantic White Cedar Study

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council has awarded the town $50,000 for an Atlantic White Cedar Study and Restoration Plan at Pickerel Pond, developed in partnership with the Nipmuc-led organization No Loose Braids. The Nipmuc community harvests Atlantic White Cedar at the pond, in part to build domed huts called wetus. Natick was one of eight communities to share $300,000 in Accelerating Climate Resilience grants out of some 45 applicants, and an MAPC official called the project unique.
