State Denies Initial Funding Bid for Auburn St Housing

Metro West Collaborative Development failed on its first attempt to win state funding for a 32-unit affordable housing complex at 5 Auburn Street, the former Eliot School site off Rte. 16 in South Natick. Select Board Chair Kathryn Coughlin told the board on Sept. 16 that it typically takes two rounds of applications to secure a Community One Stop for Growth Award, so the denial "wasn't entirely unexpected." The developer, which has already cleared town permitting and holds a Select Board letter of support, plans to reapply in December, with results expected in the spring.
