Middle School Adopts New Team-Based Model for 2026-27 Year

Superintendent Cari Berman presented a team-based model for the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School's 2026-27 year to the School Committee, made possible by the $13.5 million override voters passed in November. The override funds 17 district positions, restoring a structure abandoned for the current year. Under the sixth-grade 'Building Continuity' plan, students are split into three teams of about 100, taking English, math, science and Ancient World History in classrooms near their lockers and homerooms, with part-time wellness, theatre, computer science, literacy and music courses twice a week.
