Medford Names Temporary Deputy Chief Ahead of Police Chief's Retirement

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced that Capt. Paul Covino has been promoted to temporary deputy chief, with subsequent promotions backfilling other positions, ahead of Police Chief Jack D. Buckley's retirement on Dec. 19. The mayor said the restructuring lets officers and new command staff learn management operations under Buckley over the next three months, and that Buckley is working to secure department accreditation before he retires. Covino has more than 40 years with the Medford Police Department and served as provisional chief in June; applications for the next chief close Sept. 28.
