Council calls for release of Medford man detained by ICE

City councilors unanimously approved a resolution on Tuesday, Sept. 15, calling for the immediate release of Vijay D'Souza, a longtime First Baptist Church member believed to have been detained by ICE agents at the Atlanta airport in August while boarding a flight back to Boston. Councilor Matt Leming said D'Souza was in the middle of acquiring a green card when he was detained, and that his wife, Rachel, is in Atlanta arranging his legal defense. Pastor Gregory Sakal, who alerted councilors by email, is also organizing church members to write letters of support for use at D'Souza's court hearing.
