Tufts Facilities Workers, University Reach Tentative Contract
Tufts University and 32BJ SEIU reached a tentative contract Friday afternoon covering about 100 groundskeepers, skilled maintenance and trades workers across the university's campuses, averting a potential strike. Workers had been without a contract since the previous four-year agreement expired June 30, and had unanimously voted to authorize a strike a little more than a week earlier. The deal includes annual wage increases retroactive to July 1, new higher-paid grounds positions, improved paid time off, and protections for workers taking immigration-related leave; specific wage figures and the contract's length were not immediately announced.
