West Medford Power Outage Closes High School, Darkens Signals
A power outage hit parts of West Medford on Monday morning, knocking out traffic signals and streetlights and forcing Medford High School at 489 Winthrop St. to close for the day. Superintendent Suzanne Galusi said the building was too dark to safely oversee students and had no power or internet to handle potential medical or other emergencies; all other district schools opened as usual. Police urged drivers to use extra caution at intersections where signals were down, and National Grid restored service by about 11 a.m.
