Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley to retire Dec. 19

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced that Police Chief Jack D. Buckley will retire Dec. 19 after 28 years with the department, including the past eight as chief. Buckley was hired as a patrol officer in 1998, promoted to sergeant in 2009 and lieutenant in 2015, and supervised the Detective Bureau before being appointed the city's 14th permanent chief in December 2018. The city has begun the search for a successor, a process aided by state legislation exempting the chief and deputy chief posts from civil service.
