Ambulance Contract Dispute Escalates With 'Shakedown' Claims

The Boston Globe reported Aug. 23 that Armstrong Ambulance CEO Richard Raymond says he was asked last year to pay the city a $450,000 lump sum, a request he called "a shakedown" and did not believe was legal. Armstrong had provided 911 response in Medford for more than 25 years before the city moved to a different provider in recent months. Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn rejects that account, saying Armstrong declined to abide by provisions of its contract, and the city has raised allegations of unpaid funds and reliability issues.
