Virginia Buckingham Reflects on 9/11 Trauma and Resilience
Marblehead resident Virginia Buckingham was running the Massachusetts Port Authority when two hijacked planes took off from Logan International Airport on Sept. 11, 2001. In the years that followed she wrestled with guilt, shame and blame, an experience she chronicled in her memoir "On My Watch." Speaking Sept. 10 after the release of an audiobook version narrated in her own voice, she reflected on 25 years of public scrutiny and how her understanding of resilience has changed: "I not only changed completely, but in an odd way, in a beautiful way, have returned to myself."
