Eagle Scout Project Upgrades Warming Center

Malden Warming Center Upgrade Workday Scheduled for Sunday

About 30 youth volunteers and scouts led by prospective Eagle Scout Forrester Blankinship are at the Malden Warming Center at 529 Eastern Ave. today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., repainting the interior and insulating and painting an exterior shed used by unhoused people waiting to enter. Blankinship's project proposal notes the shed shields against rain and wind but is not insulated, and the work is meant to make it more comfortable in colder weather. A second group of roughly 10 volunteers returns Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon to finish; Sherwin-Williams' Medford commercial store donated paint and General Insulation in Malden provided mineral wool.
