New model: Lynnway lane cut adds about a minute

New traffic analysis adds to Lynnway redesign debate

State transportation officials say updated traffic counts and computer modeling show that removing one general-purpose lane in each direction from the Lynnway would add about 1 minute to most peak-direction trips and just over 2 minutes southbound during the morning commute. The analysis draws on traffic counts collected in March, projected development along the Lynnway and anticipated traffic growth through 2033, but the raw counts and modeling results have not been provided to The Daily Item for independent review. The project would rebuild roughly 2.5 miles of Route 1A with two general-purpose lanes and one dedicated bus lane in each direction, plus protected bike facilities and sidewalks.
