Former Lynn officer indicted in use-of-force case

An Essex County grand jury indicted former Lynn police officer Christopher Gomez on assault and battery and civil-rights charges over alleged "unreasonable force" during a May 16 call for service at a residence, the district attorney's office announced Thursday. Lynn police said the department identified and investigated the matter internally before referring it to the DA's office, and Gomez, who has stepped down from the department, is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 8.

Two sentenced in 2023 Lynn shooting case

Maurice Fussell pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to nine years in state prison, and co-defendant Monique Jones received 6.5 to seven years, in the 2023 fatal shooting of Earl Ricker on Lincoln Street.
