Lynn water reserves drop dangerously close to record lows

The Lynn Water and Sewer Commission's monthly water treatment plant report, reviewed Tuesday, shows reservoir capacity at 56.8% as of July 31 — down more than 10 points from 69.8% in June, after 4.36 inches of rain in July. "Since 2007, it's never been this low," chief engineer Andy Hall said. "So, it's getting dire." In June, Water Treatment Superintendent Matt Comeau warned that if residents do not better follow water-use restrictions, the commission could face conditions like those in 1999, when reservoirs fell below 50% following dam repairs.
