Fitchburg man identified in Lynn homicide investigation

The Essex County District Attorney's office identified the man found dead on South Common Street last week as Rafael Gonzalez Cruz, 52, of Fitchburg. Police responded to the area of 200 South Common St. at 6:18 a.m. Thursday for a well-being check and found him suffering from apparent trauma; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being investigated as an apparent homicide, and authorities said there was no indication of a wider threat to the public.
