Lynn beaches closed to swimmers amid heat and bacteria issues

As of Aug. 7, several beaches here — including Kings Beach and Lynn Shore Beach — were listed as not recommended for swimming because of bacterial exceedance and a combined/sanitary sewer overflow event. The postings come as heat index values in the mid- to upper-90s move into the weekend, with about 50 beaches closed statewide Friday, according to the state's water quality dashboard. The state updates that dashboard hourly between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day, including weekends, throughout beach season.
