Meaney, VanMeter challenge Rep. Wong in 9th Essex primary

Ward 1 City Councilor Dr. Peter Meaney and Inspectional Services Director Zosia VanMeter are both seeking to unseat state Rep. Donald Wong, a Republican who has represented the 9th Essex District since 2011. The district covers Ward 1 in Lynn along with Saugus and Wakefield, and the Democratic primary is set for Sept. 1. All three candidates point to the state's high cost of living as the district's biggest challenge, but each proposes a different approach to it.
